AfD leaders traveled to Washington but had to watch Trump’s inauguration from afar due to weather restrictions
Washington: So, the leaders of Germany’s far-right AfD party made their way to Washington for Trump’s inauguration. But guess what? They ended up watching it on video from a distance.
Tino Chrupalla, the co-chairman, and Beatrix von Storch, the deputy leader, were stuck in a viewing area about two kilometers away from the Capitol. Not exactly front-row seats, right?
Chrupalla mentioned that the freezing weather kept him from enjoying the ceremony up close. They had to move the swearing-in inside because of the cold, which meant fewer people could attend.
While they were there, Chrupalla met with some business folks, Congress members, and diplomats. Von Storch, on the other hand, got to chat with some big names from Trump’s circle, including Donald Trump Jr. and Steve Bannon.
She felt the trip was totally worth it, saying the Republicans see the AfD as their partners in Germany. Sure, they might not agree on everything, but they share a common goal: taking down the left-wing woke movement.
