Apple says no one using Lockdown Mode has been hacked with spyware

Apple Lockdown Mode Proven Effective Against Spyware Hacks

Apple confirms lockdown mode has successfully blocked all spyware attacks on iPhones for nearly four years.

In the busy city of Cupertino: Apple has released new information about their special security tool called Lockdown Mode. This tool helps keep phones safe from hackers who try to steal information.
“Apple is not aware of any successful spying attacks on phones with Lockdown Mode turned on,” said company spokesperson Sarah O’Rourke. The company first created this tool in 2022 to help people who might be in danger of government spying.
Lockdown Mode works by turning off some phone features that hackers often use. It’s like putting your phone in a strong safe that only lets through what’s truly needed. When Lockdown Mode is on, some things work differently – for example, you might need to copy a website link and paste it into your browser instead of clicking on it directly.
Security experts who study phone hacking agree with Apple’s findings. People at places like Amnesty International and the University of Toronto have looked at many phone attacks and haven’t found any that broke through Lockdown Mode. In fact, some spyware gives up entirely when it sees Lockdown Mode is active, because it knows it can’t get through the protection.
Cybersecurity expert Patrick Wardle says Lockdown Mode is one of the strongest safety features ever made for phones. By making the phone’s “attack surface” smaller, it removes many ways that hackers usually break in. This makes it much harder and more expensive for bad actors to create spying tools that work.
While it’s possible someone might have found a way around Lockdown Mode that hasn’t been discovered yet, the evidence strongly suggests it works very well. Many security experts, including myself, recommend that anyone worried about being spied on should turn on Lockdown Mode in their phone settings. Even though it makes some features work a little differently, the extra protection is worth it for most people concerned about their digital safety.
