Discover the best smart bird feeders with cameras tested for durability, ease of use, and more in our expert review for 2026.

Lifestyle

Los Angeles: You’ve probably seen or heard of smart bird feeders. They are well-known for their clear bodies, built-in cameras, and even solar panels. Many people wonder if they are worth the high price. Are they strong enough? Do they keep squirrels away?

We have tested popular smart bird feeders like the Birdfy Lite ($140) and Birdbuddy Pro ($179) for over a year. We’ve used them in rain, snow, and sun—also, our yard has many squirrels! We checked the apps, video quality, and which features ask for a subscription. We even verified AI bird identifications using Cornell Lab’s All About Birds.

Updated in January 2026: We added new picks for testing, like Kiwibit’s Beako with solar roof. Also, new notes on Birdbuddy feeders. Our next test will be the unique Coolfly Aura, revealed at CES this week.

Best of All
The cheerful Birdfy feeder by Netvue caught our eyes early. It was the first smart feeder we reviewed and got a decent score back in 2022. The app has greatly improved for users. Often, you can find it on sale for $150 or even less. Plus, paying a little extra gives you access to reliable bird identifications.

This feeder has a wide camera view of 155 degrees and shoots 1080p video, even at night! The durable material and easy-to-fill top make it user-friendly. You can buy a separate solar panel or mount it up high. Just follow the right setup rules.

Best Upgrade
Kiwibit Beako (With Solar Roof)
A top choice for design and usability, the Beako feeder uses a battery that charges well, even in clouds! The easy-to-clean design is helpful, and you can take out parts for maintenance. With 8 MP photos and 4K HD video, it beats out many competitors. Just know that it is pricey and requires a subscription for extra features.

Best Connectivity
Camojojo’s Hibird feeder shines for its ability to work with both Wi-Fi bands. The recent model came with solar panels, and you can also mount it on a pole. However, the AI can sometimes misidentify birds.

Best Smart Hummingbird Feeder
Birdbuddy’s Pro feeder shines with its fun app and great features. It is easy to fill and clean. The app has cool updates, including seasonal themes, but sometimes the camera misses birds.

A Unique Smart Birdhouse
Birdfy’s Nest Polygon Smart Birdhouse stands out for its cool design. It has a remote control for easy access to the camera. However, it can have connectivity problems, and we had a hard time drawing any birds to our test model.

Best App
Birdbuddy’s Smart Bird Feeder Pro has a strong camera and features options for sharing content. The app, however, may be a bit tricky when it comes to filling.

If You Want to Use an Existing Bird Feeder
If you have your own feeder and want an add-on camera, check out the Hibird DIY camera. It works with multiple Wi-Fi bands and gives solid video quality.

A Truly Squirrel-Proof Design
The TT Nature feeder keeps squirrels away but needs an improved app. While it can hold its own against squirrel attempts, the machine could be better designed overall.

Overall, each bird feeder has unique qualities. Choose one that fits your needs best!
