BioticsAI Wins Disrupt Battlefield 2023 and Gets FDA Approval for Ultrasound Tool
BioticsAI, the 2023 Disrupt Battlefield winner, secures FDA approval for its AI tool that enhances fetal ultrasound imaging and diagnosis.
Robhy Bustami started BioticsAI. He grew up with family members who were doctors, which got him interested in healthcare. He learned to code and studied computer science at UC Irvine. In 2021, he joined with Salman Khan, Chaskin Saroff, and Dr. Hisham Elgammal to create BioticsAI.
The company’s AI checks fetal ultrasound images for quality and completeness. It also makes reporting easier and helps doctors work better. Bustami pointed out that many women in the U.S., especially Black women, face high risks during pregnancy and childbirth.
The company trained their AI with hundreds of thousands of ultrasounds to ensure it works reliably for everyone. Bustami explained that it took almost three years to get through the FDA approval process.
Now that they have the green light, BioticsAI plans to grow and improve their product for hospitals across the U.S. Bustami is excited about adding new features that will help more women get the care they need.
