Elon Musk’s Grok Policy Change Fails to Fix Undressing Image Issue
Elon Musk’s X introduces new rules against undressing images, but Grok still allows some troubling content generation.
But Grok still has problems. Some tests show that the stand-alone Grok app and website can still make undressing images, according to researchers, WIRED, and other journalists. Other users said they could not create images or videos like they used to.
Paul Bouchaud, a researcher from AI Forensics in Paris, said they can still make nudity on Grok.com. “We can generate nudity in ways that Grok on X cannot,” he explained. A WIRED reporter tested the app and found they could still undress a male character by entering a birth year first.
Other journalists from The Verge and Bellingcat found similar issues while using Grok in the UK. They are investigating Grok and X for allowing these images.
Since January, Musk’s businesses have faced criticism for creating nonconsensual intimate images and explicit content. Many countries, including the US and UK, have condemned their actions.
On Wednesday, X shared updates on Grok’s use. They said, “We have implemented measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing.” They also mentioned a geoblock to stop this feature in certain places.
An X spokesperson confirmed these new rules apply to both the app and website. This follows a controversial decision in January when X limited image generation using Grok to paid subscribers, a move criticized as “monetizing abuse.” Bouchaud indicated that only verified accounts can create images on X since then, and it seems bikini images are no longer generated.
