Detroit: Ford is working on an AI assistant for its smartphone app. This assistant will be available in cars by 2027. They shared this exciting news at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show. Ford also revealed a new version of its BlueCruise driving help, which will let drivers take their eyes off the road by 2028.

This announcement is special because not many big car companies shared news at the CES this year. Ford spoke in a session called “Great Minds,” which focused on how technology meets human needs.

Ford’s AI assistant will be hosted by Google Cloud. It will be able to answer questions like how much stuff can fit in your truck. You can even ask it about real-time info like oil life. The assistant will first appear in Ford’s updated app in early 2026, and it will be in cars by 2027.

The company didn’t share too much about how it will work inside cars, but we can guess it will be similar to what other car makers are doing. For example, Rivian has an assistant that can send texts and help navigate. Tesla also has a chatbot for its vehicles, which can create fun tours. Ford has time to make its in-car experience just as exciting.

The new BlueCruise system will be cheaper to produce by 30% compared to the old version. It will launch in 2027 in a new mid-sized electric pickup truck. Ford promises even more from this new system, including eyes-off driving by 2028. It will also handle point-to-point driving, which is similar to what Tesla and Rivian are working on. Drivers still need to be ready to take control of the car at any time.
