Gemini Launches Beta Feature for Smart Responses from Your Photos and Emails
Google’s Gemini app now offers personalized responses using your photos and emails for smarter results.
The new feature is called Personal Intelligence, but it’s off by default. You can decide if you want Gemini to check your Google apps. Some people might not want an AI looking at their personal photos or YouTube history. If you do choose to connect, Gemini only uses this feature when it believes it will be helpful.
Josh Woodward, an executive at Google, explained how Personal Intelligence can help. For example, if you need to know your car’s tire size while at a shop, Gemini can suggest tires by looking at your family road trip photos. Woodward also mentioned that it even found his license plate number from a picture in Google Photos.
Additionally, he has received great recommendations for books, shows, and travel. For an upcoming spring break, Gemini suggested alternatives that avoided crowded tourist spots, thanks to past trip data from Gmail and Photos.
Google assures users that Gemini has rules in place for sensitive matters, like health information. It won’t assume anything about sensitive data unless asked.
Importantly, Gemini does not use your Gmail or Photos directly for training. Instead, it learns from past prompts in the app while keeping your data private. This new Personal Intelligence feature is available to certain subscribers in the U.S., with plans to expand further.
You can try prompts like, “Help me plan my weekend in [city],” or “Recommend documentaries based on what I’ve been curious about.”
