Gmail Introduces Personalized AI Inbox and New Search Features for Everyone
Google’s latest Gmail update brings an AI Inbox and enhanced search features to all users.
Mountain View, CA: Google has launched a new AI Inbox for Gmail. This feature gives personalized overviews of tasks and important updates. Also, Gmail is introducing AI Overviews for search and a new “Proofread” tool to help improve writing. Many AI features that were once only for paid users are now available to everyone.
The AI Inbox has two sections: “Suggested to-dos” and “Topics to catch up on.” The “Suggested to-dos” section shows top priority emails. These emails may remind you of things like bills due soon or calls you need to make to your doctor.
Under “Topics to catch up on,” you’ll see updates like “Your order has been delivered” or “You can now view your end-of-year statement.” These updates are organized into categories such as “Finances” and “Purchases.” Blake Barnes, a VP at Google, says they want to help users stay on top of tasks. The traditional inbox will stay, but this is a new way to check emails.
Google is testing the AI Inbox with trusted users before making it widely available. With AI Overviews in Gmail search, you can ask questions in simple language. This way, you don’t have to search through many emails for the answers.
You might ask, “Who was the plumber that gave me a quote?” The AI will pull this information from your emails and show it clearly. This makes it much easier to find what you need!
Every feature uses only your emails, so your privacy stays safe. Google assures that it does not use personal data for training AI. The new Proofread feature will help with better writing by giving suggestions for word choices and structure.
For example, if you write “might inflict disturbance,” it will suggest “might disturb.” This feature is similar to services like Grammarly. It’s aimed at helping users without needing to use third-party tools.
While these features are starting for selected users, Gmail’s “Help Me Write,” AI Overviews for emails, and “Suggested Replies” are available to everyone. Help Me Write can help create emails quickly, while Suggested Replies suggest responses based on your conversations.
