Mountain View: Google announced a new version of its Trends Explore page on Wednesday. This updated page uses Gemini to help users find and compare trends connected to their searches. The update is being released on desktop starting today.

The Trends Explore page has been helpful for content creators, reporters, and researchers. It makes it easy to check search interest for any topic over time, different areas, and categories. The new Gemini features cut down the time it takes to research trends. They also help users find links they might miss otherwise.

The updated Explore page now shows a side panel that automatically finds and compares trends you are interested in. Users will see suggestions for Gemini prompts that help them explore more about their topics.

The design has improved too! Now, there are special icons and colors for search terms, making it easier to match them to their lines on the graphs. Google also added more terms users can compare and doubled the number of rising queries shown on each timeline.

To show off the new features, Google used trending dog breeds as an example. The AI can fill in the graph with up to eight search terms, like “golden retriever” or “beagle.” It also suggests other related topics, such as “hypoallergenic dog breeds” or “large dog breeds” for deeper insight. Users can click on terms to change them or use filters for country, time, and type to make their Trends timeline fit their needs better.

This update is part of Google’s plan to make Gemini a bigger part of what it offers. The company has already added AI features to Search, Gmail, Maps, and Docs.
