Los Angeles: Clicks Technology has a new phone called the Communicator. This smartphone has a physical keyboard, just like BlackBerry phones. The Communicator costs $499 and comes with a separate slide-out keyboard for $79.

At CES, Clicks’ chief marketing officer, Jeff Gadway, showed off the prototype. This phone has a touchscreen and uses Android 16, so you can run any Android app. It also works with a special launcher, Niagara Launcher, to help you find apps easily.

Gadway shared exciting news that sales are better than expected. His team sells a phone every 6.5 seconds! The prototype we tried is not fully ready, but it feels just like the one coming later this year. This phone has 256 gigabytes of storage and can be expanded to 2 terabytes using a microSD card.

The Communicator has a 4000mAh battery and weighs about 170 grams. It will have different back covers that you can swap. Although the prototype’s cover was not ready, it will have a small notch for easy removal.

Holding the phone was pleasant because it wasn’t too heavy or light. Gadway said they tried many designs before picking the winning shape that is easy to grip. The screen is higher than the keys, which helps protect the keyboard when you put it down.

A cool feature is the “Signal Light.” This button lights up in different colors for messages from important people. It helps you know when to pay attention to notifications from your boss or kids.

The keys felt nice, but they might change slightly before the final version. Some people like softer keys, but others prefer them clicky for fast typing. They have lively discussions about this!

You can easily move from typing on the keyboard to using the touchscreen because they are at the same height. The phone has a front camera that takes 24-megapixel photos, and the back camera can take 50-megapixel pictures and has special features for better videos.

Running on a fast processor, this phone has 8 gigabytes of RAM and a 4.03-inch AMOLED screen. You can charge it quickly with a wired connection and use wireless charging, too. The phone includes GPS, NFC, and promises five years of security updates.

The Communicator is set to ship in late 2026.
