How Ozlo is Transforming Sleep Data with Innovative Technology and Partnerships
Ozlo is enhancing its sleepbuds with a new platform to share sleep data and partner with apps like Calm for improved user experience.
These partnerships will help Ozlo reach more people and move into software subscriptions and healthcare. For example, AI features or relief tools for tinnitus could be offered as paid options. Last year, Ozlo bought a neurotech startup to add medical device features to its products.
Ozlo’s co-founder and CEO, NB Patil, explained the company’s plan. They created an SDK for iOS and Android. This lets other apps, like Calm, see if their content helps users sleep. Calm can’t tell if users are asleep, but Ozlo’s sensors can. These sensors track body movements and breathing and send information to a special charging case. A smart algorithm can tell if someone is asleep or just relaxed.
The smart case has other sensors, too, like temperature and light sensors. This means Ozlo can share important sleep data with apps. If a user plays a breathing exercise, Ozlo can see if their breathing slows down and share this with Calm. This helps Calm know if the exercise works or if they need to change things.
Patil says this is important because content creators don’t always know if what they make is effective. If Calm users are happy, they might upgrade their subscriptions, and Ozlo could earn part of that revenue.
Ozlo is also creating tools for tinnitus, which affects 15% of its customers. They worked with Walter Reed Hospital on a study that showed playing certain sounds helps reduce the ringing many people hear. These tools will be available through a subscription by 2026.
Ozlo is adding AI features to better support customers. They launched Sleep Patterns in November, showing users their sleep data. This year, they plan to introduce a “sleep buddy” AI agent that helps users understand their sleep habits.
Ozlo is also working on new hardware to fix charging issues with their earbuds. Their next charging case will have a Bluetooth button and improvements for better sound quality. They plan to launch a bedside speaker in Q2 that tracks sleep without using earbuds.
Ozlo is growing by acquiring other companies, like Segotia, which specializes in EEG technology. This will let Ozlo gather brain-level insights and create real-time sleep solutions. A product using EEG technology is expected in 2027.
With a busy year ahead, Ozlo must execute these new features and products quickly. They are also looking for more funding and are finalizing a Series B investment round soon.
