Mastering File Management on iOS and Android for Everyday Users
Learn how to easily manage your files on iOS and Android with built-in tools that help keep your storage organized
These changes have happened because our phones now have more storage, complex apps, and smart operating systems. Also, cloud storage is everywhere, making local file management tools even more important.
While there are many apps for managing files, we will look at the built-in tools on Android and iOS. These apps help you see what files you have and where they are, plus they can help you free up space on your phone.
If you have an Android phone, the Files app from Google comes preinstalled. When you open it, you will see your recent files and different file categories like Downloads, Images, Videos, and Documents. You can also search for files using the search box at the top.
In the app, if you want to see every folder, tap on the Internal storage button. You can also access your cloud storage accounts with the Other storage button. There’s a special Safe folder too, which needs a PIN to keep sensitive files secure.
When you open a folder or file category, just tap on any file to view it. If a file cannot open in the Files app, it will ask you to choose another app on your phone. You can change how you view the folders by tapping the grid or list icon in the top right corner. Plus, you can sort your files in different ways from the menu.
