Illinois: The health department in Illinois has a big problem. They let private information of over 700,000 people be seen by anyone online. This happened because of a security issue that lasted for several years.

The Illinois Department of Human Services, known as IDHS, discovered this problem on January 2. They found out that a website meant for mapping was open for people to see. This site showed information from April 2021 to September 2025. The health officials used this website to help distribute state resources.

The data that was exposed included details about 672,616 people who get help from Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs. This information had their addresses and case numbers but did not show their names.

Along with this, information from 32,401 people in the Division of Rehabilitation Services was also visible. This included names, addresses, and case statuses. IDHS stated they do not know if anyone viewed this sensitive information while it was online.
