One Week After Death of Renee Nicole Good Protests Rock Minneapolis
It’s been a week since Renee Nicole Good was shot in Minneapolis, prompting protests and strong reactions from local leaders and citizens.
Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets. Young students, parents, and elderly people are all joining in. They set up memorials for Good and are facing off with ICE agents. Many have been arrested during these demonstrations.
More than 2,000 ICE agents are in Minneapolis, and another 1,000 are on their way. Local leaders are upset about ICE’s tactics. Minnesota state representative Michael Howard said, “It feels like our community is under siege by our own federal government.”
Department of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem continues to claim that the agent, Jonathan Ross, acted in self-defense. She has called Good a “domestic terrorist” multiple times.
However, videos show a different story. They appear to show Good driving away when Ross shoots at her windshield. In one video, shared by members of the Trump administration, a male voice is heard saying something inappropriate right after the shooting.
Minnesota, along with Minneapolis and Saint Paul, have sued the US government. They want to stop the increase of ICE agents in their cities.
Protests are ongoing across Minnesota and the country. Residents are who have bundled up in winter coats are staging walkouts against their federal government.
