Sydney: Mobileye is well-known for making chips that help cars be safer. Now, the company wants to step into the world of robots. Amnon Shashua, one of the founders, announced a big change.

Mobileye said it will buy Mentee Robotics for $900 million. This startup, also co-founded by Shashua, makes robots that look like people. The deal includes paying $612 million in cash and giving shares of stock. Shashua made sure he wasn’t part of the decision to buy his own company.

The agreement was approved and is expected to finish early next year. Mobileye thinks this might add a little to its costs in 2026. Shashua said this is a key moment for combining robots with cars. He believes they can help create robots that understand people better.

Mentee will keep working as its own group within Mobileye. This way, they can share ideas and resources. Mobileye has a lot of money coming in from its car technology—about $24.5 billion over the next eight years. This shows they can afford the expensive task of making humanoid robots.

The news comes right after Mobileye announced a new deal with a major car company to buy many of its advanced car systems.
