Las Vegas: Motional is changing its plans for robotaxis. Almost two years ago, the company faced a big problem and had to make choices. It had missed deadlines and even lost some financial support. But now, Motional is back on track, focusing on AI technology for its driverless cars. By the end of 2026, they want to launch a driverless taxi service in Las Vegas.

Motional started a robotaxi service for its workers, supervised by human drivers. Soon, the company plans to let everyone use these taxis. They will start this service with a partner for ride-hailing. The aim is to have fully driverless vehicles by the end of this year. Motional’s CEO, Laura Major, said they want to use the latest AI advancements to make their services safer and more effective.

The company is shifting its tech approach from traditional robotics to a more advanced AI. They are combining smaller AI models to create a stronger system, which helps adapt to new cities quickly. So, when their taxis go to a different city, they can learn about new traffic rules easily.

Last week, someone from TechCrunch took a test ride in Vegas. It was a busy area, but the self-driving car managed to navigate around people and taxis. Motional’s past service had human drivers helping in crowded spots. While there are still improvements needed, Motional believes they are on track for safe and effective driverless cars. Laura Major shared that the ultimate goal is to make these systems available in personal cars too.
