Goshen, New York: RFK Jr. was out falconing when a woman hit a bear with her van. He took the bear because he said it was in good shape. In New York, you can get a bear tag for roadkill. He planned to keep the meat at home.

After having fun that day, he hurried to get back to the city. He was late for dinner at Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn. Instead of dropping off the bear, he thought it would be funny to leave it in Central Park, to make it look like it was hit by a bike.

He wanted to make people laugh, especially because there had been bike accidents in the area. The next day, he was shocked to see news about the dead bear. Kennedy said he had no idea it would cause such a big response from law enforcement. He worried when he heard that a bike was being checked for fingerprints.

Kennedy found the bear near Goshen. If he had dropped it off at home, it would have made him 35 to 70 minutes late. Despite his wild ideas, Kennedy faced questions about why he didn’t just let the bear go in a wooded area. Only he can explain that decision.
