Not built right first time, says Musk as xAI reboots over
As xAI retools staffing and strategy, Elon Musk admits the company is restarting in its race against OpenAI and Anthropic.
Palo Alto, California: Elon Musk has admitted that his artificial intelligence company, xAI, was “not built right the first time” and is starting over again to compete with big companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Recently, several co-founders and top engineers left xAI after Musk said their AI coding tools were not working well compared to tools made by other companies. This caused a lot of changes inside the company. Musk explained that xAI needs to improve its products, especially its coding tools, which help programmers write computer programs faster and make more money for AI companies.
XAI is also having trouble attracting enough skilled workers. To help solve this, Musk said he and a team are reviewing job applications that were rejected before to find talented people who may have been missed.
Some new employees joined xAI from a company called Cursor, which could help xAI improve in the future. The company is also working on big future plans like creating an “AI agent” that can help people with everyday computer tasks at work.
Despite the challenges, Musk remains hopeful about xAI’s new direction. However, because xAI recently became part of SpaceX, the company is under pressure to show results to investors and prove that its products are useful for people.
