OpenAI Secures $10 Billion Deal for Compute Power from Cerebras for AI Growth
OpenAI has inked a $10 billion deal with Cerebras to boost AI performance with faster compute power starting this year.
The deal’s value is over $10 billion. Reports say the goal is to offer quicker responses for OpenAI’s customers. In their blog, OpenAI mentioned that the new systems would help process requests faster. Andrew Feldman, Cerebras’ CEO, stated that just like broadband changed the internet, real-time inference will transform AI.
Cerebras has been around for over ten years, but its popularity grew a lot after ChatGPT launched in 2022. They say their chips are faster than other systems, like Nvidia’s.
Cerebras planned to go public in 2024 but delayed it several times. They are raising more funds and recently talked about getting another billion dollars, reaching a $22 billion value. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, is already an investor in Cerebras, and OpenAI once thought about buying the company.
Sachin Katti from OpenAI explained that their plan is to create a reliable mix of systems for different jobs. He said, “Cerebras adds a quick-response option to our tools. This means faster replies, smoother conversations, and a stronger base for real-time AI for many more people.”
