San Mateo: Snowflake plans to buy Observe, an observability platform that helps companies monitor their software systems. This platform has relied on Snowflake’s databases since it started. Snowflake announced it signed a deal on January 8 to acquire Observe, pending approval. The aim is to give customers a single place to gather and store their telemetry data, which includes logs, metrics, and traces from software systems. This will help users find bugs and issues faster.

Observe was created in 2017 by Jacob Leverich, Jonathan Trevor, and Ang Li. They launched their first product in 2018, which was built on Snowflake’s database. Observe has raised nearly $500 million in funds from companies like Snowflake Ventures and Sutter Hill Ventures. Both Snowflake and Observe have ties to Sutter Hill Ventures. Mike Speiser, a managing director there, was Snowflake’s founding CEO from 2012 to 2014.

Jeremy Burton, who is the CEO of Observe, has been on Snowflake’s board since 2015. The merger will help users keep an eye on their data better and find issues ten times faster than before. This is especially important now because there is so much data being created by AI. With the integration, users will have a better way to collect and understand their telemetry data, which is built on new technology like Apache Iceberg and OpenTelemetry.

The deal’s financial details are not public, but reports suggest it’s worth around $1 billion. This would make it Snowflake’s biggest purchase yet, larger than its $800 million deal for Streamlit in March 2022. As of July 2025, Observe was valued at $848 million, according to data from PitchBook. TechCrunch has reached out for more information.

Last year, many data companies began to merge to expand their product offerings, making them more appealing in the AI era. This acquisition might indicate continued consolidations for data companies in 2026. Snowflake has been active recently, making several AI-related purchases like Crunchy Data and Select Star, which helps organizations manage their data.
