Minneapolis: Tech workers are speaking out against ICE after a tragic event. An agent shot Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed US citizen, in the street. Many tech leaders have stayed quiet about this, but some employees are now taking action.

More than 150 tech workers signed a petition asking their CEOs to demand that ICE stop its actions in US cities. Workers from companies like Google, Amazon, and Meta are among those who signed. Anne Diemer, who organized the petition, wants tech leaders to speak up against ICE.

Nikhil Thorat, an engineer, shared his feelings about the event. He said, “A mother was gunned down in the street by ICE.” He worries about how people are remaining silent, comparing it to times in history when this happened before.

Jeff Dean, a chief scientist at Google, also spoke out. He criticized the government’s actions, saying, “We can’t become numb to illegal actions by government agencies.” He shared shocking videos and stressed that what happened is wrong.

Even Aaron Levie, the CEO of Box, questioned a comment from a vice president who said Good was dangerous. Levie asked why the ICE agent didn’t move away instead of confronting her. Tech workers are starting to make their voices heard, even if many leaders are not yet doing so.
