2026 BMW iX3 to Feature Next-Gen Alexa Plus Voice Assistant Technology
Amazon’s Alexa Plus arrives in the 2026 BMW iX3, enhancing voice commands for drivers in a seamless experience.
On Monday, Amazon revealed that Alexa+ would be in the BMW iX3, making it the first vehicle to use this upgraded voice assistant. This announcement came during the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Amazon wants its voice assistant in every device, including cars. Alexa+ is currently available in over 600 million devices. Now, it’s time for cars to join in.
The Alexa+ in the BMW iX3 is important for testing how well voice assistants work in cars. Many car makers have struggled to create assistants that truly understand drivers. Developers have worked on AI for over ten years, but it still needs to get better.
BMW and Amazon have been working together for three years on this project. In 2022, BMW shared that they would use Amazon’s Alexa as the base for their next voice assistant. They are not just adding Alexa; instead, they are creating their own version using Amazon’s technology called Alexa Custom Assistant.
Amazon has built Alexa+ using a special service called Amazon Bedrock. This allows companies to create apps using powerful AI models. BMW can customize the app to provide unique features.
The goal is for the voice assistant to manage complicated requests easily. For example, users can start asking questions at home and continue the conversation in their BMW. The assistant can help with music, navigation, and more without needing to open different apps.
