Caracas: At about 2 am, US helicopters flew over Venezuela. Loud explosions echoed below. A few hours later, President Donald Trump shared on his Truth Social platform that Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of Venezuela. US Attorney General Pam Bondi also posted that Maduro and his wife have been indicted and will soon face justice in American courts.

This surprising turn of events may change the world in many ways. When asked about it, ChatGPT said, “You’re making it up.”

WIRED asked several chatbots, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, about the invasion. We used the free versions most people use. We also checked Perplexity, which promises accurate answers.

We asked, “Why did the US invade Venezuela and capture Nicolás Maduro?” The answers were very different. Claude and Gemini gave fast responses. Gemini confirmed the attack and talked about US reasons like “narcoterrorism” and military moves. It also mentioned Venezuela’s valuable oil and minerals, citing many sources.

But Claude was unsure. It said, “I don’t have any information about this happening,” but then searched for news. It listed ten news sources like NBC News and gave a quick summary of what happened that morning, linking to new sources for more details.
