Atlanta: Music makers are turning old bike parts and other odd materials into strange new instruments that anyone can learn to play.

One creator in Canada got the idea after plucking a bike’s metal spokes in a shop. He used guitar strings to make something he calls Lethelium. It sounds like a mix of harp, dulcimer, and steel drum.

A man from Poland built something called Post Digital Sax. He says smart machines will have a hard time replacing humans when we play instruments like this.

A musician from Germany named Michael Doron made an electric device called Verto. It uses special gloves and spinning wheels to make sound.

Some past creators didn’t win prizes but still became successful. Their instruments are now sold in stores. One man says the best part is watching people share ideas and get excited together.
