TikTok Shop Suggests Products With Disturbing Nazi Symbolism to Users

A TikTok Shop search for jewelry led to shocking Nazi symbolism suggestions, raising concerns about the platform’s moderation efforts.

City: TikTok has been in the news for suggesting strange products. My journey started with a search for “hip hop jewelry.” I wanted to find something nice to wear. But TikTok’s algorithm surprised me with jewelry featuring Nazi symbols.

Many users were shocked to see this kind of suggestion. Last year, TikTok removed antisemitic products, but issues remain. Recently, a swastika necklace was offered as a “hiphop titanium steel pendant” on sale for $8. When many users saw this, they shared their anger online, which led to TikTok taking down the product.

I looked deeper into TikTok Shop’s recommendations and found many items connected to far-right and Nazi ideas. When users shop, a recommendation box shows items that are similar. This box appears in TikTok’s shopping tab and includes images and suggestions for what users might want.

A TikTok spokesperson, Glenn Kuper, admitted that such suggestions break the company’s rules. He said TikTok is trying to fix this issue. TikTok’s safety report noted they removed 700,000 sellers and 200,000 banned products in the first half of 2025.

Interestingly, manji symbols, which can look like swastikas, were used by Buddhists long before the Nazis. Still, the necklace’s popularity seemed like a deliberate act of provocation.

Joan Donovan, who studies online culture, saw the same swastika necklace on her feed. She pointed out that the description contains “HH,” which stands for “Heil Hitler,” a phrase used by Nazis. This detail made the necklace even more troubling because of its connection to hate.
