Uber Wayve and Nissan to Deploy Robotaxis in Tokyo This Year
Uber, Wayve, and Nissan partner for Tokyo robotaxi launch. Service to use self-driving Nissan Leaf on Uber platform by late 2026.
Tokyo: Uber, Wayve, and Nissan want to start a robotaxi service in Tokyo. The service will use self-driving Nissan Leaf cars.
The cars will drive by themselves using Wayve’s software. This software helps the cars see and understand what’s around them. The cars will work on Uber’s ride-hail app.
This will be Uber’s first robotaxi service in Japan. The company is making many robotaxi deals around the world. They want to be the main app for self-driving taxis.
The service should start by late 2026. The cars won’t need maps to drive. Wayve says their software can work in any car with any type of equipment.
