ICE Expansion Plans, Palantir Ethics, AI Assistants in Uncanny Valley

ICE demands new offices, Palantir workers grapple with ethical concerns, and AI assistants raise new questions in this week’s Uncanny Valley.

Politics

Birmingham: ICE has big plans. They want to spend $80 billion dollars with $75 billion in just four years. They need new buildings for their agents, officers, and lawyers. This is not just about people with guns. They also need offices where lawyers can work and sign important papers.

Fort Lauderdale: ICE lawyers called OLA are asking for more offices. OLA helps with court cases and deportation orders. They work with judges to show why people should or should not be allowed to stay. The lawyers need locations near new detention centers and in many new cities.

Boise: They want offices in many places like Birmingham, Fort Lauderdale, Iowa, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. These new offices will help ICE expand its work across the country.
