Why did Netflix back down from its deal to acquire Warner Bros.?

Netflix Withdraws Warner Bros Acquisition Offer Amid Shareholder Pressure

Netflix shocked the entertainment industry by walking away from its planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in Paramount taking over the studio instead.

Business

New York: Netflix surprised everyone by saying no to buying Warner Bros. Discovery. The company had been trying to buy the big movie and TV company. But they changed their mind after thinking about money and what other companies would do.

Netflix’s leaders Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters wanted to be careful with money. The company’s share price dropped 30 percent after they said they wanted to buy Warner Bros. But when they decided not to go through, the share price went up 14 percent. Netflix also got $2.8 billion from Paramount to end their deal.

When another company called Paramount said they would pay more, Netflix worried about paying too much. They remembered when President Donald Trump told Netflix not to overpay. So Netflix backed away from trying to pay more money. Netflix wanted to be smart with their spending.

Now people at Warner Bros. are worried. They think they might lose their jobs. Some workers fear they will face pressure from politicians about what they make for TV shows and movies.
