Why Garry Tan Loves and Debates His Claude Code Setup
VC Garry Tan shares his AI-powered coding setup gstack, sparking excitement and controversy in the tech community.
San Francisco: Venture capitalist Garry Tan has created a big buzz with his AI coding tools called gstack. Tan told people at a tech event that he barely sleeps now because he’s so excited about working with AI helpers.
He shared his gstack setup on Github for anyone to use. It includes special tools that let Claude work like different team members – one acts as a CEO to check ideas, another acts as an engineer to write code, and more help review and document the work.
The setup became super popular right away. Many people downloaded it and changed it for their own needs. But some people also criticized Tan when he said a friend told him the tools could find security problems really well.
Experts who tried gstack had different opinions. One said it’s a smart way to organize AI work but not magic. Another said it’s like having “Pro” tools that focus on getting things right, not just making coding easier. Claude itself said it liked the setup a lot.
Tan explained he used to take medicine to stay awake and work more, but now he doesn’t need it because he’s so excited about AI coding. He says AI makes him work faster and better than ever before.
