City: San Francisco: The Wikimedia Foundation is turning 25 years old! To celebrate, they announced new partnerships with big tech companies like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft. These partnerships help companies use Wikipedia content in their tools and services.

In total, Wikimedia has teamed up with several others over the year. This includes Google and Mistral AI, as well as Ecoisia and ProRata. These partnerships help Wikipedia get money in a time when many AI tools are using its info to quickly answer questions. Wikimedia Enterprise is the special service that makes this possible.

Wikimedia said that Wikipedia is now one of the top 10 most-visited websites! People look at more than 65 million articles in over 300 languages almost 15 billion times each month. Selena Deckelmann, an important leader at Wikimedia, said they need human knowledge now more than ever, especially with AI around.

Along with these new tech partnerships, Wikimedia started a birthday campaign. They share a cool video series showing how volunteers help Wikipedia worldwide. They also created a time capsule about Wikipedia’s history and plans for the future, with stories from founder Jimmy Wales. On January 15, at 4:00 p.m. UTC, they will have a fun livestreamed birthday event with guests and games. You can watch it on their YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram pages.

Wikimedia’s birthday updates also included advancements in tech, AI ideas, and new projects like games and videos.
