Fire weather conditions are expected to worsen in California, raising concerns for ongoing wildfires and safety in affected areas
Donald Trump mentioned he plans to visit California soon to see the damage firsthand. This comes after Governor Gavin Newsom invited him to check things out, even though Trump has been critical of him online.
In a positive move, Newsom announced that several major banks are stepping up to help. They’re offering mortgage relief for up to three months for those affected by the fires.
As of Sunday morning, the Palisades fire was 52% contained, but it has already burned over 23,000 acres and destroyed nearly 5,000 structures. Sadly, ten lives have been lost due to this fire.
The Eaton fire is also a major concern, with 81% containment and significant damage. It has claimed the lives of seventeen people.
Right now, about 82,000 folks are under mandatory evacuation orders, and another 90,000 are on alert.
The Santa Ana winds are expected to pick up again, leading to a red flag fire weather warning for several counties, including Los Angeles and San Diego. The National Weather Service warns that these dry and windy conditions could lead to rapid wildfire spread.
