Chimayó: A man named Raymond Romero, 34, has been charged with murder in a recent killing. This marks the third homicide in Chimayó this year.

The victim, Jonathan Cordova, was 40 years old. State police confirmed the charge against Romero, who is now facing first-degree murder. The details of the incident from December 29 are still under wraps, as court records are sealed.

Romero was arrested after being pulled over in Española, where police found cocaine on him. They suspected he was involved in the homicide earlier that day. He was driving a black Nissan Rogue, which was linked to the crime.

After a few days in jail, Romero was released. His social media shows he has a family and went to Pojoaque Valley High School.

Cordova’s obituary described him as a loving man who enjoyed fishing and hunting. His family is mourning his loss, calling it a tragedy.

This homicide is part of a troubling trend in Chimayó, a small community with about 3,000 residents. Earlier this year, there were two other killings, including a stabbing and a shooting. The local police are working hard to address the violence in the area.
