Albuquerque: So, here’s the scoop. A cold front is rolling in, and it’s going to drop temperatures again on Thursday. We might even see some light snow in parts of New Mexico. But don’t worry, things will warm up again by Friday.

Wednesday was chilly, but it was a tad warmer than the day before. The afternoon brought some relief with temperatures getting closer to what we usually expect for late January. Just a heads up, though, it was pretty breezy with gusts hitting around 35 mph in places like Farmington and Albuquerque. Tonight, those winds will calm down, but a backdoor cold front is on its way, bringing the cold back.

Thursday morning is going to be cold, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. Light snow is expected in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and parts of northeast New Mexico, with maybe a dusting of up to an inch.

By Thursday afternoon, expect temperatures to be 10° to 15° cooler. A few flurries might linger from the mountains down to Las Vegas and even the Sacramento Mountains. After another chilly night, Friday will bring a nice warm-up, getting us back to average temperatures.

But hold on, because the weather is about to get a bit tricky again this weekend. A winter storm system is heading our way, bringing rain and snow to northern and western New Mexico by Sunday. Early next week, we could see more widespread rain and snow, especially in the mountains where roads might get a bit tricky.
