Piqua: A tragic incident unfolded when a 1-year-old girl, Vivian Gardner, died after suffering serious injuries. She had a brain bleed and a skull fracture, reportedly caused by being slammed to the floor.

Vivian was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital but sadly passed away on December 19. The police are investigating the case, and Michael A. Mayor, 34, has been indicted on multiple charges, including felonious assault.

The babysitter found Vivian unresponsive after she had been left in Mayor’s care. He claimed he was trying to calm her down when he shook her and then slammed her onto the floor.

Footage from a living room camera showed him carrying Vivian to the bedroom, where the incident occurred. Mayor was arrested at work after police determined he was the last person with her.

In a phone call from jail, he admitted to hurting Vivian, saying he lost his temper. The case is still developing, and more charges may follow as the investigation continues.
