NEW ORLEANS: On January 7, Louisiana is remembering Tiger Bech, who tragically lost his life in the January 1 attack on Bourbon Street. It’s a tough time for everyone.

Governor Jeff Landry has declared a period of mourning, and all flags at state buildings are being flown at half-staff. It’s a way to honor Tiger and show respect.

Tiger was a Lafayette native, known for his football days at St. Thomas More High School and Princeton University. He was a receiver and kick returner, and later worked at Seaport Global Holding LLC.

During a recent news conference, Landry shared a touching quote from Tiger’s brother, Jack. He expressed his desire to show the world the impact Tiger had on him. It’s a beautiful sentiment.

Tiger’s mother, Virginia, also spoke out, saying, “Evil will not prevail.” Her strength is inspiring during such a difficult time.

In addition, Louisiana State Superintendent Cade Brumley has encouraged schools to hold a moment of silence at 9 a.m. as part of the mourning period. It’s a small but meaningful gesture.

To further honor the victims, the New Orleans Police Department and the Archdiocese of New Orleans will ring the bells of St. Louis Cathedral daily from January 6 to January 23, between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. It’s a lovely way to remember those we’ve lost.
