Indianapolis: A tragic scene unfolded in an apartment on the southside. A woman discovered her roommate dead, showing signs of a violent struggle.

When the police arrived, they found a bloody towel outside and more blood inside. The victim was identified as Shanaiya McDonald, and it was clear something terrible had happened.

Witnesses reported hearing screams for help earlier that morning. The investigation led to Regulus Baka, the victim’s boyfriend, who was arrested shortly after.

Police found evidence linking him to the crime, including a cellphone and laptop belonging to McDonald, discarded in a dumpster nearby.

Surveillance footage showed a man matching Baka’s description throwing items into the dumpster before leaving the scene.

After tracking down Baka, police had to use a translator to ensure he understood his rights. He claimed McDonald had been abusive towards him, which escalated into a violent confrontation.

Baka admitted to hitting her multiple times and even using a space heater as a weapon. He chillingly stated, “I just wanted her dead,” during his interrogation.

Now, he faces serious charges, including murder, with his first court appearance set for early January 2025.
