Two brothers from Stroudsburg received prison sentences for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, just before Trump’s inauguration.
They might be among the last to face consequences for that day, especially with Trump about to be sworn in again. The judge even hinted that this could be one of the final sentences related to the riot.
Matthew had already pleaded guilty to some serious charges, while Andrew faced even more for using a dangerous weapon. They really got into the thick of things, climbing a media tower and getting involved in the chaos.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said they helped break through police lines and even stole some police gear. It sounds wild! Matthew even sprayed a chemical irritant at officers, while Andrew threw a chair at them.
Interestingly, neither brother had a criminal record before this. Andrew expressed regret in a letter, saying he never meant to hurt anyone. He claimed he just overreacted when he thought police were being too rough with Matthew.
Matthew also didn’t go inside the Capitol but got into a bit of a scuffle with officers. His lawyer argued that it was more of a brief moment of pushing than anything serious.
Both brothers have shown remorse for their actions, and it seems like they’re really reflecting on what happened that day. It’s a tough situation for them, but they’re owning up to their mistakes.
