SACRAMENTO: So, it looks like Governor Gavin Newsom is gearing up to make a splash during Donald Trump’s visit to Los Angeles. Even though he hasn’t heard from Trump, Newsom is planning to be at the airport to give him a warm welcome.

He mentioned he wants to thank Trump and ensure he has everything he needs for his briefing on the wildfire damage. Newsom is all about making sure the resources are there, saying there’s no limit to what they’ll provide.

Now, this visit comes at a time when Trump and Newsom have had their fair share of disagreements. Trump is back in California while there’s a bit of a standoff over federal disaster aid. Republicans want to tie that aid to some demands, and Trump has been vocal about wanting Newsom to cooperate on issues like water delivery and forest management.

Interestingly, these two haven’t spoken since Trump left office in 2020, and it seems Trump hasn’t returned Newsom’s calls lately. But Newsom is trying to keep things cool, saying he has connections in Trump’s circle and wants to focus on working together for the state’s recovery.

With the wildfires causing serious damage and loss of life, Newsom is under pressure. He’s been defending California’s spending on wildfire preparedness while also trying to appeal for federal help. He even pointed out that they could work together on the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which he believes could be a unifying project.

Trump, on the other hand, mentioned he hasn’t really thought about meeting Newsom during his trip. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out when they finally cross paths.
