A tragic head-on collision in Saybrook has left one woman dead, prompting an investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol
Saybrook: Early Wednesday morning, a serious crash happened when a Chevrolet Equinox collided head-on with a garbage truck. Sadly, an Ashtabula woman lost her life in the accident.
The incident took place around 7:55 a.m. on Route 45, close to milepost 25. Brenda Hawes, 52, was driving south when she veered into oncoming traffic and hit the garbage truck.
Tragically, Brenda was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the garbage truck driver walked away without injuries.
The crash caused Route 45 to be closed for about 2.5 hours while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate what happened.
Local fire and transportation departments were on-site to assist. The investigation is still ongoing, and more details may emerge as they look into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
