The outreach program connects homeless individuals with vital services and housing.
Victorville: On Friday, deputies helped 30 people find assistance and two secure permanent housing during a homeless outreach event. It was all part of the “Operation Shelter Me” initiative by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
This outreach ran from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and aimed to connect unhoused residents with essential services like housing and mental health support. The focus was on those dealing with significant mental health issues, helping them find the right treatment.
During the operation, the H.O.P.E. Team reached out to 41 individuals living on the streets. Out of those, 30 were referred to various assistance programs, and 21 received follow-up services. Plus, two people were placed into permanent housing.
They also identified three individuals who might need court-mandated treatment under California’s Laura’s Law. This outreach effort is set to continue across San Bernardino County in the coming months, funded by the county’s “Community Concerns” program.
