President Trump’s recent pardons raise questions about local ties to the Jan. 6 riot
According to the Justice Department, nearly all of the 1,600 people charged in the riot were included in this pardon. However, it’s still unclear if any of those from the Naples area were part of this group.
A look at the local defendants shows a few notable cases. Christopher Worrell, 53, from East Naples, received a hefty 10-year sentence for his actions during the riot. He was part of the Proud Boys and was found guilty of pepper-spraying officers. His case was particularly dramatic, as he tried to evade justice by cutting off his ankle monitor before sentencing.
Then there’s John Herbert Strand, 41, who got two years and eight months for his involvement. He was convicted on multiple counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding. Strand was arrested in California shortly after the riot.
Lin Marie Carey, also from Naples, was arrested for her actions during the Capitol breach. She faces several charges, including felony obstruction. Her trial is set for April 22.
Lastly, Zachary Pearlman, 26, was arrested for assaulting officers during the riot. He’s facing multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement.
These cases highlight the local connections to the events of January 6, raising questions about the impact of Trump’s pardons on those involved.
