Anchorage: So, President Trump just signed this big executive order on his first day back in office. It’s all about ramping up Alaska’s natural resource game. Basically, he’s looking to roll back a bunch of environmental rules that were put in place to limit things like oil drilling and logging.

This order is part of a whole bunch of actions he took right after being inaugurated. One of the first things he did was undo some of Biden’s restrictions on oil development in the Arctic and Bering Sea. It’s like he’s saying, “Let’s get back to business!”

The order, which he’s calling “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential,” came after Alaska’s Governor Mike Dunleavy asked for some quick changes to help the state’s resource industry. And it seems like the Republican folks in Congress from Alaska are all on board with this too.

Trump’s plan is to make it easier for companies to drill for oil and gas, log forests, mine, and even hunt on federal lands. He’s telling federal agencies to get rid of any rules that don’t align with this new direction, especially those that Biden put in place.

One of the big moves is reversing Biden’s halt on oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Trump had pushed for that during his first term, and now he’s bringing it back. He’s also denying a request to create a sacred Indigenous site in that same area.

There’s more! He’s also looking to revive a controversial road project in Northwest Alaska and is trying to roll back logging restrictions in the Tongass National Forest. Plus, he’s reinstating rules that allow more hunting and trapping on federal lands.

Alaska’s political leaders are pretty happy about this. Senator Dan Sullivan said that under Biden, Alaska faced a lot of challenges, but now Trump’s order is going to put Alaskans back in control of their resources. Senator Lisa Murkowski, who’s had her ups and downs with Trump, is also celebrating this move.

Governor Dunleavy is super excited, saying, “Alaska is unleashed!” He believes this order will open up tons of opportunities for resource development and energy independence.

But here’s the kicker: it’s still unclear how quickly these changes will lead to new projects. In the past, there hasn’t been much interest from investors in some areas, even with fewer regulations. So, we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Trump’s got a catchy phrase too: “We will drill, baby, drill!” He’s declared a “national energy emergency” with this order. He’s also undoing Biden’s plans that limited drilling in the Arctic, which Biden had set up to protect the environment.

Of course, not everyone is on board. Conservation groups are pushing back, saying that opening up these lands will only worsen climate change and harm Alaska’s ecosystems. They’re ready to fight against Trump’s plans.

Oh, and just to add a little more drama, Trump also signed an order to change the name of Denali back to Mount McKinley. It’s like he’s making a statement on multiple fronts!
