Vermont is bracing for a light dusting of snow this weekend amid warmer temperatures and strong winds, according to weather forecasts.
Vermont: This weekend, Vermont is expecting just a light dusting of snow. The National Weather Service in Burlington says the snow won’t really affect the snowpack much.
On Saturday, temperatures are set to rise between 32 and 38 degrees. Plus, we’ll see some strong winds, gusting up to 40 miles per hour, especially in the Champlain Valley and Burlington. So, while it might be warm during the day, a little snow could fall Saturday night when it cools down.
Forecasters think the snow will start late Saturday morning, peaking in the afternoon and evening before tapering off by night. However, in the valleys, it’s more likely to rain than snow during the day.
According to the NWS, the precipitation will mainly hit the southern and southwestern slopes first, with rain below 500 feet. Snow accumulations will be tricky during the warm day with those gusty winds breaking apart the snowflakes.
As night falls, the colder air will help switch the rain to snow across the state. Overall, they’re predicting just a dusting to about an inch of snow this weekend.
St. Lawrence County might see the most snow, while Champlain Valley could get the least. Even with the minimal snowfall, the colder weather after the warmup should help keep the snowpack intact.
So, if you’re planning to ski, don’t worry too much. The little bit of snow we do get should help add to the existing pack before it starts melting.
