Spring kicks off with the vernal equinox, which this year falls on March 20. That’s when we can officially say goodbye to winter in New York and the Northern Hemisphere.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, we can expect some temperature forecasts from February through May.
How long is winter?
Whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, winter will officially wrap up when spring begins. This season lasts about nine weeks, from December 21, 2024, to March 20, 2025.

New York’s spring 2025 forecast
The National Weather Service predicts that the Southern Tier will have a 40-55% chance of warmer temperatures from February through April.
This warming trend is expected to spread across the state.
And just so you know, the Southern Tier might also see more rain than usual from February to May, with some areas getting hit harder than others.
